In 1930, Gregory Sarantis establishes in Constantinople the company that was to shape in the future the cosmetics business landscape in Greece. The company's object is the representation and commercial distribution of luxury cosmetics. To this day, under the name of its founder, the company constitutes a reference point for the business world in the cosmetics product sector.
In 1956, the political situation makes it imperative to transfer the seat of the company to Athens. This event becomes the starting point of meteoric growth for the company, which has already acquired profound knowledge in the field where it activates.
10 years later, in 1965, the establishment of new industrial facilities at Marousssi launches Sarantis on a new era of independent productive activity. Prosar and Clochard cosmetics are its first products. These two brands are lasting values in the cosmetology field to this day, continuing their successful course in providing cosmetic care for generations of consumers!
The 1980s constitute for the Sarantis Group a period of development of clear strategies for growth and expansion of activities. New collaborations are effected with leading European and American cosmetics companies (Estee Lauder, Clinique, etc), while increasing and evolving consumer demands are covered by new, innovative products.
The 1990s is a period of dynamic growth for the Sarantis Group. The strategy of steady growth starts bearing fruit and the economic contingency favors the sectors in which the Group activates. New company-developed products are placed on the shelves by a growing distribution network.
A pioneer in the domestic business world, the Sarantis Group is listed on the Athens Stock Exchange in 1994, thereby ensuring the guarantees for a steadily rising course.
1995 marks a time when the Group flourishes through its expansion to the Balkan market, lending an international character to its activity. Sarantis is one of the first Greek companies to enter this market, thereby effecting a qualitative leap, especially by the standards of that time. Today the Group, apart from Greece, is present in eight Eastern European countries through an equal number of subsidiaries: Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Skopje, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Turkey.
In 1997, the Sarantis Group extends the range of its activities, commencing the production of household products.
The two-year period 1997-1999 is marked by rationalization and restructuring of the Group's building facilities. In 1997, the storage areas and distribution centre are transferred to new state-of-the-art building facilities (37,000 sq. m.) at Oinofyta, Viotias, on privately owned land of 98,000 sq. m. In August 1999, the production facilities of the Group are also transferred to the same location.
In 2002 a joint venture is signed with Estee Lauder as a move to strengthen the Group's activities in the selective distribution cosmetics sector. This strategically important decision boosts the Group's presence both in Greece as well as in the Romanian and Bulgarian markets.
In 2004 the merger plan for the Group's subsidiaries in Greece is completed, resulting in a dynamic and powerful company with a long tradition and indeed a very promising future!
In 2005 the Group realized strategic moves which serve its objective for expansion in Eastern Europe as well as enhancement of its own products portfolio. Specifically, in May 2005 Sarantis Ukraine and Sarantis Turkey, the Group's new subsidiaries in Ukraine and Turkiye respectively, were established. Moreover, all the necessary actions and research so that the start up of the Group's subsidiaries in Russia and Hungary take place during 2006 were intensified. Finally, during 2005 STR8 & Carroten relaunches were successfully implemented, while new co operations for the distribution of Jo Malone, Prada, Miss Sixty, etc took place.
2006 is a milestone for the Group's history since it celebrates 50 Great Years on the Greek market. Sarantis offers Great Brands for everyday needs of 400 mio consumers in Eastern and South-Eastern European Markets. At the same time, the Group establishes subsidiaries in Russia and Hungary.
2007-2008 A strong activity growth continues in 2007 and 2008 across the Group's business activities and countries of operation. The acquisition of the Romanian cosmetics company ELMIPLANT in 2007 and the acquisition of the Hungarian food packaging products company are indicative examples of the Group's active course of development.
